Socceroos Scott Jamieson and Alex Gersbach have missed out on the Europa League group stage after their respective clubs were beaten overnight.
The two Australian left-backs entered the second legs of their Europa League play-offs in relatively strong positions, with Jamieson's IFK Gothenburg having won their first leg 1-0 at home, while Gersbach's Rosenborg lost 2-1 away.
But after Socceroos midfielder Tom Rogic helped Celtic in the Champions League group stage earlier in the week, Jamieson and Gersbach were unable to replicate that achievement in Europe's second-tier club competition.
IFK travelled to Azerbaijan but suffered a 3-0 defeat to lose 3-1 on aggregate to Qarabag, with Jamieson playing a full match in Baku. In Norway, Gersbach played the last 20 minutes of Rosenborg's 2-1 home loss to Austria Vienna, which saw the Austrian outfit triumph 4-2 over two legs.
