Mark Schwarzer held out Liverpool until injury time when Fulham faced the Reds at home on Saturday. Liverpool dominated the first half but Schwarzer saved first from Andrea Dossener and then blocked out Torres with a fine save.

The Cottagers succumbed in injury time however with Yossi Benayoun firing past Schwarzer and sent Liverpool briefly to the top of the Premier League with a 1-0 win.

Brad Jones was another Aussie goalkeeper to taste defeat this weekend. Jones' Middlesbrough conceded in the 8th minute when Kevin Davies took the lead for Bolton and Brad was at full stretch to tip over a free kick in the 16th minute.

Boro equalised but Bolton ran away with the match to consign Boro to a 4-1 loss and leave them second from bottom on the table.

In the Scottish Premier League Scott McDonald had several chances to get among the goals when Celtic thrashed Trent McClenahan's Hamilton Academicals 4-0.

McDonald fired wide five minutes before half time and had a side footed shot blocked by the Accies goalkeeper just after halftime. Scott was replaced in the 71st minute later and Trent McClenahan came off the bench for the Accie's 4 minutes later.

Danny Invincibile scored the opener for Kilmarnock versus Heart of Midlothian. Invincibile scored with a powerful header in the 8th minute however hearts went on to take the game 3-1.

James Wesolowski started for Dundee however he earned a booking on 28 minutes for diving and came off ten minutes into the second half as Dundee United drew 2-2 with Hibernian.

On the continent Jason Culina played the full shift as PSV Eindhoven defeated Sparta Rotterdam 2-0 in the Dutch Eredivisie. Michael Beauchamp returned for Aab and played the full shift as they defeated AGF Aarhus 2-1 in the Danish SAS-Ligaen.

Scott Chipperfield came off the bench in the 74th minute for FC Basel as they drew 1-1 with Bellinzona and Mark Rudan played the full shift for FC Vaduz in the Swiss Super league as they drew 2-2 with Grasshoppers.

In the Turkish Super Lig Michael Petkovic kept a clean sheet as Sivasspor maintained their spot at the top of the table with a 2-0 win over Denizlispor.

Mile Jedinak, James Troisi and Bruce Djite all started for Genclerbirligi but they succumbed to a 4-2 loss to Antalyaspor.

Luke Wilkshire played the full shift but Dinamo Moscow lost 1-0 to second placed Terek Grozny in the Russian Premier League.

In the English Championship David Carney got a start for Norwich City but Norwich are teetering just one point above the drop zone after losing 1-0 to Sheffield Wednesday.

Nick Carle played the full shift for Crystal Palace but the Eagles drew 0-0 in a stalemate with Queens Park Rangers and Rhys Williams played the full shift for Burnley who drew 1-1 with Derby.

In League One, Gold Coast United bound Joel Porter scored a brace for Hartlepool in their 4-2 win over Hereford.

Porter scored the opener on 9 minutes only for the Pools to concede an equaliser. Joel then stepped up to the spot minutes later however to slot home a penalty.

Patrick Kisnorbo played the full shift for table toppers Leicester as they drew 2-2 with Carlisle. Chris Coyne was absent for Colchester but Neil Kilkenny played 78 minutes of Leeds 1-0 win over Colchester and Gareth Edds played the full shift of Tranmere's 2-0 win over Bristol Rovers.
