ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE
HARRY KEWELL (Liverpool)
Kewell's back for Liverpool after getting through the Asian Cup unscathed. Rafa Benitez will be hoping his faith in the star will be repaid with an injury-free and successful season ahead. The Reds are away to Aston Villa for their season opener next weekend.

LUCAS NEILL (West Ham)
Lucas has the skipper's armband at West Ham and will be hoping to lead the club to more success than simply escaping relegation by the skin of their teeth like last term. West Ham meet Man City to start the season.

MARK VIDUKA - JAMES TROISI (Newcastle United)
Now at Newcastle after switching on a free transfer from Middlesbrough where he chose not to renew his contract. Viduka had found his scoring touch for Boro and will be hoping to carry on that momentum with the new-look Magpies under Sam Allardyce. Teenager Troisi will have his work cut out to force his way into the first team with stars like Viduka, Owen and Smith ahead of him for the striker's role. Newcastle meet Allardyce's old team Bolton to kick-off their new season.

MARK SCHWARZER - BRAD JONES (Middlesbrough)
Schwarzer has stuck with Boro (so far, at least) despite concerns about the club's ambitions and transfer market activity. Brad Jones wil hoping to challenge him for the Number One jersey - and he'll have to if he wants another crack at being the sticksman for the Socceroos. Boro meet Blackburn Rovers for the first game of the new season.

BRETT EMERTON (Blackburn Rovers)
Emerton's back at Blackburn for another season after an impressive outing for the Socceroos in Asia and will be hoping to link up well with new Rovers striker Roque Santa Cruz. Rovers face Boro for the season's start.

MARK BRESCIANO (Man City?)
His move to Manchester City from Palermo seems almost a done deal, despite signing a four year deal with Palermo in 2006. It will be a Premiership debut for Bresh under Sven Goran Eriksson after a career spent in Italy since leaving Australia eight years ago. Man City will face up to West Ham at the weekend.

JOSIP SKOKO (Wigan Athletic)
Skoko's season at Wigan is secure after winning another work visa to keep him at the club. Wigan will be hoping to steer clear of relegation after their once-impressive form abandoned them in the latter half of last season. Fellow Aussie John Filan is no longer at the club after being released on a free at the end of his contract. Wigan meet Everton for their first match of the new league.

NEIL KILKENNY (Birmingham City)
Looking to line up for Birmingham City after a loan to Oldham was blocked at the last moment when City's transfer of Ghaly fell through. Will want more first team games than his sporadic appearances last season. Birmingham are away to Chelsea for their Premiership baptism of fire.

TIM CAHILL (Everton)
Cahill ended last season with an injury - and starts the new one with another. Ironically, the injury came after Tim made it through the Asian Cup without damaging himself, only to pick up a knock in Everton's friendly against Werder Bremen. Everton are at home to Wigan next weekend.

ADRIAN LEIJER - AHMED ELRICH (Fulham)
The former Victory wonderkid will be wanting to earn a place in Fulham's first team and chances are he could after Franck Quedrue left for Birmingham. Adam Elrich will be hoping to shake off last season's injuries to compete for place too. It's a London derby for Fulham with their opening tie against Arsenal.

ADAM FEDERICI (Reading)
His place at Reading is guaranteed for another two seasons after signing a new contract but he's second choice 'keeper behind Reading talisman Marcus Hahnemann. Reading travel to Manchester United for their debut game.

BUNDESLIGA

MICHAEL BEAUCHAMP - JOSHUA KENNEDY - MATTHEW SPIRANOVIC - DARIO VIDOSIC (Nurnberg)
Vidosic is set to make his Nurnberg debut this season after his transfer from Queensland Roar. Beauchamp had already proved to be regular feature in the team and his Asian Cup performance will have ensured that will continue. Josh Kennedy has made his return to the team after an Achilles tendon injury dashed his hopes of teaming up with Beauchamp in Asia and wrecked his season last year. He came on after 63 minutes Nurnberg's 6-0 thrashing of Viktoria Hamburg overnight. Beauchamp played the full game in defence. Spiranovic will want to impress in the first team to secure a Socceroo's place...and guarantee him for Australia and not Croatia.

ITALIAN SERIE A

VINCE GRELLA (Torino)
Left Parma to join Torino on a three year contract over the close season. Will want to impress his new manager after a disappointing performance at the Asian Cup and an outspoken blast at rivals and officials.

ZELJKO KALAC (AC Milan)
Spider will again be bench-warming for most of the coming season unless Dida knacks himself.

JESS VANSTRATTAN (Juventus)
In by popular demand. The problem with learning from the best, $75 million Gianluigi Buffon, is that 25 year old Vanstrattan's chances of first team exposure are pretty limited, especially as he's third or fourth choice sticksman. But he IS an Australian Juventus player.

ITALIAN SERIE B

CARL VALERI
With Vince Grella's disappointing performance for the Socceroos in the Asian Cup, there's never been a better time for Valeri to impress and stake his claim for Grella's spot. His club kick off their season away against Modena on August 25.

ENGLISH CHAMPIONSHIP

JAMES WESOLOWSKI - PATRICK KISNORBO - PAUL HENDERSON (Leicester City)
The Aussie trio will be reunited in the Foxes line-up next season and likely to be first team regulars after impressive performances last season (despite Kisnorbo's mediocity for the Socceroos). Henderson has battled himself into first choice spot as Foxes' 'keeper, Wesolowski is a firm fans' favourite with a four year contract and Kisnorbo will stay a key part of the Leicester defence after a rumoured move to Birmingham fell through.

DAVID CARNEY (Sheffield United)
Sydney FC's former star winger has made his return to the UK, albeit for a paltry transfer fee. Will Carney shine - or will he fade into obscurity? It's Carney's big chance - let's hope it works out for him.

RICHARD GARCIA (Hull City)
Swapped Championship sides from Colchester to Hull City on a three year deal and will be aiming for promotion to the Premiership within 12 months.

NICK WARD (QPR)
It's not been a great experience for Ward in the UK. He joined Championship side QPR after being named Young Player Of the Year for his performances with Perth Glory in the opening A-League season, but couldn't hold down a first team place. He was loaned out to League One club Brighton in January with mixed results. He's currently back at QPR but has been linked with a move to Sydney.

ENGLISH LEAGUE ONE

CHRIS COYNE (Luton Town)
The big brother of Perth Glory's Jamie Coyne has cemented himself into the Luton Town line-up and is expected to carry the armband as team skipper next season. He's currently got the 'flu though.

SCOTTISH PREMIER LEAGUE

SCOTT McDONALD (Celtic)
Tipped to be a big star at Celtic, the McSocceroo has already scored for his new boss Gordon Strachan in pre-season friendlies and is the Socceroos' great hope as the striker to replace Mark Viduka. He'll miss their first couple of games because of suspension.

DANNY INVINCIBILE (Kilmarnock)
Has played an important role with Kilmarnock since joining in 2003 and will want to carry on with that in the coming season. Kilmarnock play Dundee United overnight on Tuesday morning after holding Celtic to a goalless draw last weekend.

ERIK PAARTALU (Gretna)
Gretna's meteoric rise through the Scottish league system faces its biggest test with their debut in the Scottish Premier League, and midfielder Erik will want to be a big part of the campaign. They had a baptism of fire this weekend, going down 4-0 to Falkirk, with Paartalu entering the fray after 67 minutes. If he ever takes to the field against Rangers or Celtic, there's a chance Getty Images might even get a pic of him for us to use here...

SCOTTISH FIRST DIVISION

SIMON STOREY (Partick Thistle)
The former Melbourne Victory full-back has just had his trial with the Jags extended to December 15 so will be wanting to convert that into a full first team place with a contract. They were held to a 1-1 draw with Stirling Albion last week - but Storey didn't feature - and face Airdrie tonight (Wednesday)

DUTCH EREDIVISIE

JASON CULINA (PSV Eindhoven)
After a mediocre Asian Cup, Jason will be hoping to find the net for PSV more often than he has so far with just one goal from 51 outings, compared to his blistering 12 goals out of 38 appearances for previous club, FC Twente.

LUKE WILKSHIRE (FC Twente)
After poor performances for the Socceroos, Wilkshire will be wanting to get his career back on track at FC Twente.

EDDIE BOSNAR (Heracles)
Heracles finished the season in 14th place and Bosnar will be hoping to play a part in defence for their coming campaign.

BRETT HOLMAN (NEC)
Holman's squandered chances for the Socceroos are best forgotten, but he was knocking them home for NEC last season including a winning brace against PSV. That's the kind of form he'll want to remember much more than his misses while in green and gold. He's started well with a goal in their recent friendly.

SPANISH LIGA BBVA

JOHN ALOISI
We left him here, because, well, where else are we going to put him? After his contract with Alaves ran out, talks for him to come home to play in the A-League broke down when Sydney and Roar failed to find the cash he was looking for. Was last heard of talking to Swansea City...

ROMANIAN LIGA 1

WAYNE SRHOJ - JONATHAN McKAIN (FCU Politehnica Timisoara)
The pair were first team regulars for the Liga 1 outfit and will be intending to keep that going in the coming season. McKain played the whole match in last weekend's 3-2 home win over Poltehnica Iasi, with Srhoj coming off the bench after 82 minutes.

JOSH MITCHELL - JOSHUA ROSE - MICHAEL BAIRD - SPASE DILEVSKI (FC Universitatea Craiova)
Dilevski joined from Roar for the new season. Mitchell and Rose both played the full game for Craiova as they thumped Farul Constanta 4-0. Dilevski stayed on the bench while Baird didn't get a look in.

NORWEGIAN PREMIER LEAGUE

SHANE STEFANUTTO (Lillestrom)
Lillestrom drew 1-1 with Odd Grenland last week and meet Stromsgodset tomorrow night.

KASEY WEHRMAN (Fredrikstad)
Switched from Lillestrom to Fredrikstad over the close season. His new club drew 0-0 with Lyn Oslo last week and play Odd Grenland Skien tonight.

SWISS SUPER LEAGUE

MILE STERJOVSKI - SCOTT CHIPPERFIELD (FC Basel)
Chippers was badly missed by the Socceroos after excusing himself from the Asian Cup to be by his pregnant wife's side. Sterj's role was as a bit part player, making only one brief appearance so both will be focusing now on their club's campaign. Chipperfield scored Basel's only goal in their 1-1 draw with Aarau last week, playing the whole game, while Sterj didn't make the bench. He struck again overnight, grabbing an 88th minute consolation goal in Basel's thumping 5-1 defeat to the Young Boys overnight. Injured Sterj missed the bench again.

TURKISH SUPERLIG

MICHAEL PETKOVIC (Sivasspor)
Petko looked to have locked down a regular first team place as 'keeper and he'll be hoping to hold on to that position when the new season starts.

NICKY CARLE (Genclerbirligi)
Frustrated by the A-League's close season, Carle left Newcastle Jets to join Genclerbirligi this season to help his cause in sealing a place in the Socceroos.

JAPANESE J-LEAGUE DIVISION TWO

ALVIN CECCOLI (Avispa Fukuoka)
It's his 33rd birthday today and his side won 3-0 on Friday against Tokushima Vortis with Ceccoli playing the full game. Avispa are now third in the league.

CHINESE SUPERLEAGUE

RYAN GRIFFITHS (Liaoning)
Liaoning FC face Zhejiang Lvcheng on Wednesday.

DANISH SAS-LIGAEN
DAVE WILLIAMS (Brondby)
Brondby play Lyngby tonight after losing 2-0 to Chelsea in a friendly earlier this week, straight after a 5-0 loss to league rivals Midtjylland.

RETURNEES

CRAIG MOORE
Found his new home as the marquee star for Queensland Roar on a free transfer from Newcastle United.

HAYDEN FOXE
The journeyman is back in Oz and out to impress at Perth Glory after his season with Leeds United.

ADAM GRIFFITHS
He abandoned Brentford as they headed down to League Two with Terry Butcher at the helm and came back to Oz to join his brother Joel at Newcastle Jets.

SIMON COLOSIMO
His stint with Sivasspor failed to result in a first team place and he's now back with Perth Glory.

PAUL AGOSTINO
After 10 years with 1860 Munich, Agostino has returned to Australia as marquee star for Adelaide United.

DANNY TIATTO
Eleven years after he left Melbourne Knights for Europe, the veteran defender has come back to Australia from Leicester City to join Queensland Roar for the coming season.

NICK RIZZO
After a varied career in the UK and Europe, Rizzo has found a home at Perth Glory and could have a taste of silverware in the Pre-Season Cup Final.

TONY POPOVIC
With five years in Japan and another five in the UK, the veteran defender has returned from his recent stint in the Middle East to toughen up the Sydney back line as their new skipper.
