After a dour first half in hot and humid conditions, it was the Koreans who had the best opportunities of the second half, but Young Socceroos goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne produced two fine saves to keep a clean sheet.

Jason Naidovski had the best chance to score for the Qantas Young Socceroos late in the match when he received the ball at the edge of the box with his back to goal. Naidovski turned and shot, only to see his attempt narrowly miss the goal.

Young Socceroos Head Coach Jan Versleijen was pleased with his team’s performance.

He said: “You can’t fault the work ethic of the players under testing conditions.

“They all worked hard and we had our chances late in the match. Our second half showed much improvement from the first, which I am pleased about.

“The Korea Republic is one of the stronger teams in the tournament and a match like this will help our preparations for the AFC Championships in Saudi Arabia,” concluded Versleijen.

Team: Andrew Redmayne, Sebastian Ryall, Sam Munro, Matthew Jurman, Tahj Minniecon, James Holland, Mitch Nichols (James Brown 67), Nikolas Tsattalios, Jason Naidovski, Dane Milovanovic (Scott Balderson 46), Tom Oar (Nathan Elasi 35).

In the other match, Thailand defeated China 3-0.
