SOCCEROOS defender Luke Wilkshire is wary of being caught by another 'sucker punch' in Tuesday's do-or-die World Cup qualifier against Jordan.
Australia are in dire need of a win against their Middle Eastern opponents, sitting in third place in Asian Football Confederation Group B heading into the clash, two points behind second-placed Oman, although the Socceroos have a game in hand.
Wilkshire was a starter the last time the two sides met in Amman, when goals from Hassan Abdel Fattah and Amer Deeb fired Jordan to a shock 2-1 win.
And the 31-year-old, who plies his trade for Dynamo Moscow, is keen to make sure there is no repeat at Etihad Stadium on Tuesday night.
"We created enough chances to get a result there but in football when you don't take your chances you tend to find that you get done with a sucker punch - and that's what happened that night," Wilkshire said.
"I'm sure they're not going to come out open and attacking. Generally these teams come here and they sit back and they try and play on the break against us.
"I wouldn't expect anything much more different from that."
Wilkshire had his hands full coping with Japan winger Shinji Kagawa during Australia's 1-1 draw with Japan in Saitama last week, and the right-back is looking forward to providing more attacking impetus against Jordan.
"Naturally you'd think there'd be more opportunities for us to attack and have more possession at home and against Jordan, than away in Japan - that's natural," he said.
"We'll be looking to do that, we'll be looking to create a little bit more and hopefully get an even better result."
Midfielder Mile Jedinak, meanwhile, said he has overcome injury and is ready to play a role in the Jordan match.
Jedinak rolled his ankle playing for Crystal Palace in their Championship play-off against Watford and after missing out against Japan, the 28-year-old said he is raring to go.
"I've had time to recover. I think Japan came just a little too soon, unfortunately for me," Jedinak said. "I am training fully, the ankle's recovered quite well.
"I was happy with the way training went over the last few days and (I'm) just looking forward to pushing on."
