Australian winger Awer Mabil's future with Danish champions FC Midtjylland is up in the air as he chases regular game-time to boost his Socceroos hopes.
Mabil was absent as Midtjylland opened the Danish Superliga season with a 0-0 draw against Mustafa Amini's AGF on Sunday.
The 22-year-old ex-Adelaide United man had spent the past two seasons out on loan with Portuguese club Pacos Ferreira and Danish outfit Esbjerg, having joined Midtjylland in 2015 on a five-year deal.
Speaking in the Danish press earlier this week, Mabil made it clear he no longer wants to go out on loan and is eager for Midtjylland to make a decision on his future.
Mabil played regularly in the highly-rated Portuguese top flight with Pacos Ferreira and also helped Esbjerg avoid relegation and wants to know if Midtjylland intend to play him, otherwise he will look to move on.
Competition for places is tough at Midtjylland who won the Danish Superliga by four points last term.
Mabil's agent Buddy Farah declined to comment on the situation when contacted by FourFourTwo but it is understood the winger has options.
A-League clubs may be among those options including Mabil's former side Adelaide United.
"I still have two years left on my contract so I've come to let it be up to the club to decide what they want from me," Mabil told Tipsbladet.dk.
"I have to see what happens from there. At the moment, I will stay and fight and do all I can to help the team.
"But, of course, the club must be clear about my role so we can all agree.
"I have many options, but I cannot say anymore. Maybe if you come in two weeks and the club has made a decision, maybe I can say something."
He added: "I want to give myself the best chance (to play for Australia) and that only happens by doing well for your team and being on the pitch.
"You have to play week after week to have a chance for the national team and that's what has to happen.
"I have to continue my development in the next two years to hit my top level and I will only do that through playing and experience."
Mabil has never been capped at senior level for Australia, but has been called up several times. He has played numerous times internationally at under-age level.
