The Eredivisie champions have begun the search for Louis van Gaal's replacement after the former Barcelona boss made the switch to Bayern Munich earlier this week.

Dutchman Jol was among the names to be linked with the post along with former AZ coach Co Adriaanse.

But the club's technical director, Marcel Brands, has ruled out the possibility of either man filling the gap left by Van Gaal's departure.

"We can forget about signing Co, he is off our list," Brands told AD Sportwereld. "We did ask him first, though.

"Martin Jol is also out of the picture, despite all the rumours. He didn't win a title in Germany, true, but he has still had a super season at HSV."

Brands has, however, made it a priority to appoint a Dutch-speaking coach, although he insists they will not be rushed into a decision.

"Obviously we want a top coach," he told AD Sportwereld.

"Everyone knows the culture at AZ, in that we are looking for Dutch or Dutch-speaking players and coach.

"Finding a coach is the most difficult task. You can't scout him like you do with a player. You need to speak with others to get an idea.

"You can also look at the clubs that a coach has had and the ones which he had success with, but that doesn't give guarantees for the future."
