SOCCEROO caretaker coach Rob Baan has slammed Dick Advocaat's last minute snub to Australia - and said Jurgen Klinsmann is now the only available man for the job.
Baan revealed his disappointment at Advocaat's decision not to honour a contract to lead the Socceroos into their forthcoming World Cup qualification campaign.
Advocaat, 60, was expected to confirm he would take the Socceroos top job after leading Zenit St Petersburg to their first Russian title in 23 years last weekend.
However, the former Rangers boss informed the Football Federation of Australia (FFA) late this week that he did not intend to honour the deal.
The Dutchman's decision leaves the Socceroos in the lurch ahead of their qualification campaign, which is due to begin on February 6.
And Baan, who oversaw today's victory, said: "We are disappointed with the decision.
"If you sign a contract and suddenly you don't accept the consequences, it's very difficult.
"It is because we were so sure that he was coming in January because we signed him a few months ago.
"I've spoken to him many times, and also in preparation for this game, but when they won the championship something has happened.
"I couldn't reach him and the first thing I was thinking that he was having a big party but maybe the pressure was that high that he did not come."
He added: "So now we have to look for another replacement and in the middle of competitions it is difficult to find another quality coach."
The match against the Super Eagles was the Socceroos' final friendly ahead of their campaign and Baan revealed he and Graham Arnold, who has led the team in the past 16 matches, would take the national team reins on a temporary basis.
The FFA are expected to continue their search for a new man and with Baan, who is also the national team's technical director, putting former German coach Jurgen Klinsmann's name in the frame as a potential target.
Baan said: "The list is not that great. All quality coaches are signed already. Klinsmann is one of the names which is available.
"This is the only person who on a quality level is what we are looking for.
"We want a quality coach, I think we have a quality team, we have shown that today."
Turning to the match Baan was pleased with the performance of his under-strength team that was without the services of key men Mark Viduka, Tim Cahill, Jason Culina and Vince Grella.
Rising talent David Carney struck the match-winner in emphatic style, smashing in a 30-yard drive in the 53rd minute to seal the win.
"Overall I must be happy with the discipline of the team," he said.
"It is a new team, there are some youngsters starting in the team, especially Carney, (Nick) Carle, (Carl) Valeri and (Scott) McDonald.
"I also think we won against a very good team."
