Speaking to Goal Australia, Babbel - who coached Tomi Juric between 2014 and 2018 at Swiss club FC Luzern - said the Socceroos striker convinced him to coach down under.

"One of the biggest points reasons why I came here to Sydney was because Tomi Juric was telling me the crowds are totally crazy," Babbel said.

"And after Switzerland, of course it was a good time there, but the supporters are very quiet and not so many in the stadium. Now I’m really looking forward to good support.

"It was good I was talking to him and now I know a lot."

In addition to leading Luzern to three top-five finishes within the Swiss Super League, Babbel's coaching record includes Bundesliga experience with Stuttgart, - which he led to third place in his debut coaching campaign - Hertha Berlin and 1899 Hoffenheim.

Although Babbel's only trophy is a 2.Bundesliga title in the German capital, the 45-year-old is one of the younger, more pedigreed foreign coaches in A-League history.

In addition to his managerial exploits, Babbel is also a 51-cap Die Mannschaft veteran, in addition to winning three Bundesliga titles with Bayern Munich throughout the 1990s.

"I had really good conversations with the club when they came to visit me in Germany and I could see the fever in their eyes about the vision and what Western Sydney would like to do in the next couple of years," Babbel continued.

"I was thinking about it and talking to friends who know about the Australian league and I said to my wife that I have a good feeling and I'm ready now for a new experience.

"I'm looking forward and I would like to say thank you to the club for trusting in me and I will give 100% towards our vision."
