Key midfielder Pirmin Schwegler and defender Mat Jurman both pulled up in their 0-0 draw with Brisbane Roar on Saturday, adding to an already crowded treatment room.

The Swiss midfielder was withdrawn after just 18 minutes with a calf injury while Jurman couldn't continue after 82 minutes, replaced by Patrick Ziegler, who just returned from a lengthy knee injury.

It left the Wanderers with a youthful midfield of Kosta Grozos (19), Tass Mourdoukoutas (20) and Keanu Baccus (21) playing the majority of the match.

While the extent of the players injuries isn't yet clear, the infirmary could be filling up in Blacktown with Rado Majewski and Tarek Elrich also currently out as well as Nick Sullivan.

Now Babbel wants to seeA-League squad sizes increased to cover potential issues.

"This is what I said before when the season started, the squad is not big. If many things [injuries] happen, we are struggling," Babbel said after the match.

"This is a problem not only for us but for all of the teams, the squads are not very big and if something happens to your key players then you have problems.

"Pirmin [Schwegler] is a top player and if you don't have a player like him in your team you'll have problems, it doesn't mean that the other players are not good, but he is an outstanding player.

"If he's not on the pitch you can see it in your game."

The Wanderers have made headlines with the success of their youth players, like Daniel Wilmering, Mohamed Adam as well as Baccus, Grozos and Mourdoukoutas.

The debut of new German signing Nicolai Müller is a welcome addition for Markus Babbel and is thrown into the possibility of a starting debut next week.

"Müller can play as a number ten, a winger or a second striker," said Babbel. "You could see he is a good player and is doing everything I wanted, he is very good technically."
