Socceroos defender Bailey Wright is set to finally shake off a long-term thigh injury and return for Bristol City in their midweek Championship clash on Thursday morning.
The 26-year-old, who was a surprise omission from Australia's 2018 World Cup squad, hasn't played competitively since April.
Wright missed all of Bristol City's pre-season due to the thigh complaint which has troubled him for months but returned to training last week.
The Australian is now in contention for City's league clash away to Rotherham United from 4:45am (AEST) Thursday.
City boss Lee Johnson may look to rotate his side which has failed to win in their past three matches.
"Bailey Wright has been training regularly for a couple of days with no re-occurrence, which is great," Johnson said.
Given City's hectic schedule and amid rumours of an injury to right-back Jack Hunt, Johnson hinted Wright may be needed.
"It also happens in football and sometimes you get an injury, let's say Bailey Wright for example, and he could be forced to be chucked in," Johnson said.
"He'd just to have deal with it and sometimes it can be cruel if you get an injury but sometimes it can be a real positive.
"Throwing him in at the deep end is massive, particularly at centre-half because it's not a lung-based position."
Wright's return to fitness may also pave the way for his return to the Socceroos squad for the upcoming friendly against Kuwait.
