INDONESIAN star Bambang Pamungkas' hopes of securing a permanent deal with Wellington Phoenix could hinge on his performance today in the club's final pre-season match.
The Nix, who have the bye in Round One, face the New Zealand under-20 team on Saturday as they prepare for the beginning of their A-League campaign.
Bambang, 30, has been on trial with the Nix recently as he attempts to secure a permanent stay in the New Zealand capital.
Phoenix coach Ricki Herbert refused to give much away but revealed the Indonesian international striker would get a chance to push his case for a contract.
"He's looked okay, I think we'll give him some time on Saturday just to see him in a real live game," Herbert told the Dominion Post.
"He's lively, he's good in and around the box but we just want to make sure it's the right decision for the club.
"We've got good depth in the squad now and that one additional player is going to be important.
"So if it's him, great, if it's not then we've got time to keep looking."
Wellington already have secured 20 of their 23 players and Herbert said he was in no rush to add to their roster.
