The controversial 30-year-old is contracted at Loftus Road until 2015, but is keen on leaving after spending last season on loan at French outfit Marseille.

English newspapers suggested Barton wanted a fee of £3.5 million to sever his contract - said to be worth in the region of £70,000 per week.

But Barton, who has formerly played for Newcastle and Manchester City, took to Twitter to quell the speculation.

He posted: "A lot of rumours circulating about me, Marseille and QPR in last few days. As usual (they are) loads of nonsense.

"I haven't had a conversation with anyone at QPR since February. When I told them Marseille had offered me 3 years (on a contract). That was last I heard."

Barton made 33 appearances for Marseille in all competitions last season, including five in the UEFA Champions League.

He has made it clear on several occasions that his preference is to stay at the Ligue 1 club, particularly after QPR were relegated from the Premier League last season.
