The UEFA Champions League holders - who will attempt to win their first trophy of the new season against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday - recorded a comfortable triumph in front of a sell-out crowd thanks to goals from captain Philipp Lahm and Mario Mandzukic.

The result was not entirely surprising, given Bayern have already played several friendlies, whereas for Barcelona - who fielded an exclusively second-string side after the break - this was their first pre-season match.

With new Barcelona manager Gerardo Martino yet to begin his tenure, assistant managers Jordi Roura and Rubi took charge of the La Liga champions and named Lionel Messi among their starting line-up.

The visitors also handed starts to youngsters Jonathan dos Santos and Sergi Roberto in midfield, while Jose Pinto began the match in goal.

Bayern - and ex-Barcelona - boss Pep Guardiola gave Lahm a new midfield role, while new signing Thiago, who was recruited from the Camp Nou this close-season, also started.

Barcelona almost took an early lead when their captain Messi fired wide in the opening minute, but most of the early traffic was at the other end of the pitch.

Toni Kroos hit an excellent long-range effort that forced a fine save from Pinto ust moments later, while Arjen Robben had an effort blocked by Adriano after a marauding run from Franck Ribery.

Bayern were causing their opponents real problems down the left and David Alaba was next to go close, thrashing a strike at Pinto, before they claimed a deserved lead on 14 minutes.

Ribery created the goal, crossing in from the left flank under minimal pressure, with Lahm glancing his header beyond Pinto.

Barcelona should have equalised shortly after, but an excellent attack collapsed when youngster Roberto poked wide. Messi also had an effort blocked, but it was only a fleeting moment of pressure from the away side.

Bayern continued to pile forward, and Thomas Mueller shot over, while Adriano blocked a dangerous Alaba cut-back.

Cristian Tello fizzed an effort just wide in the 38th minute for Barcelona but they could have no complaints at the half-time scoreline.

Roura and Rubi changed all 11 players at the interval, giving the club's young prospects a chance to shine, while Bayern introduced Mandzukic and Xherdan Shaqiri.

The pace of the match dropped but Thiago had a close-range effort blocked, while Mandzukic was only denied by a smart save from substitute goalkeeper Oier.

Bayern rang the changes as the match wore on, with the likes of Bastian Schweinsteiger, Claudio Pizarro and Diego Contento all coming on, and their attempts to get second goal were finally rewarded three minutes from time when Mandzukic netted.

The Croatian side-footed a terrific Contento cross into the net to cap an impressive performance from Guardiola's men.
