Bayern were defeated by Chelsea in the final of the competition last season and Heynckes is intent on building momentum early in the new campaign.

"I think that the Champions League or the European games in general are something very special," Heynckes said.

"That's how it is for the players, and that's how it is for me as their coach. I have to say that it is important for us to have a good start early on in the new season so we're able to take on the challenge once again in the Champions League."

Bayern stars Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery are both in contention for the Allianz Arena clash after returning to training on Tuesday.

Both missed Bayern's 3-1 Bundesliga win over Mainz with thigh strains but Heynckes is optimistic about having the pair at his disposal against Mauricio Pellegrino's side.

"It is well known that Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben took part in training yesterday," Heynckes said.

"They did well and finished the whole session. I need to see how they'll come back today. In terms of what I saw yesterday I hope and think that both will be fit to play."
