MARIO Gomez and Arjen Robben scored as Bayern Munich preserved their place at the top of the Bundesliga with a hard-fought 2-0 win over Wolfsburg.
Bayern had to wait an hour before Gomez made the breakthrough against a well-organised Wolfsburg side at the Allianz Arena.
Wolfsburg responded well after going behind, but were unable to find an equaliser as Bayern held on before adding the second in stoppage time through Robben, ensuring they bounced back from their defeat to Borussia Monchengladbach last weekend with a win.
But Borussia Dortmund and Schalke also won to keep pace with leaders on 40 points.
Shinji Kagawa scored two goals as champions Dortmund extended their unbeaten run to 13 games with a 3-1 win over Hoffenheim.
The Japan midfielder opened the scoring for Dortmund in the 16th minute and Kevin Grosskreutz doubled their advantage after 31 minutes.
Kagawa put the result beyond doubt with his second goal in the 55th minute, before Fabian Johnson pulled one back eight minutes later for the visitors.
Schalke bounced back from Lukas Podolski's fourth-minute goal to win 4-1 at 10-man Cologne.
The visitors turned the game on its head in the last half an hour with Ciprian Marica (60 and 72) on target twice, Klaas Jan Huntelaar (78) scoring from the penalty spot after Miso Brecko saw red and Marc Hoger (82) adding a fourth.
Stefan Reinartz scored in the 57th minute as Bayer Leverkusen claimed a 1-1 draw at Werder Bremen, who had taken the lead through Claudio Pizarro's 29th-minute strike.
Goals from Marcell Jansen (24) and Mladen Petric (45) helped Hamburg bounce back from their loss last week against Borussia Dortmund with a 2-1 win over Hertha Berlin, who pulled one back through Pierre-Michel Lasogga nine minutes from time.
Stephan Hain's 66th-minute effort salvaged a 2-2 draw for Augsburg against relegation rivals Kaiserslautern.
Marcel de Jong had given the home team the lead in the fifth minute but Florian Dick levelled midway through the first half before putting Kaiserslautern in front early in the second.
