Moore is unavailable for Wednesday's World Cup qualifier against Uzbekistan due to a hamstring injury suffered in the Socceroos' Asian Cup qualifier loss to Kuwait earlier this month.

Beauchamp, Jade North and Chris Coyne are all candidates to partner Lucas Neill in central defence in Moore's absence.

And the magnitude of the opportunity is not lost on the hard-working 28-year-old.

"Craig Moore's a great defender and a great player and he's been there for so long," Beauchamp said."He's still not out of the scene yet but for this certain game it's a chance for a new player to come in."

Asked to rate his chances of earning a starting spot for the pivotal match, Beauchamp chose his words carefully.

"I'm not sure, that's up for (coach) Pim (Verbeek) to decide, there's still Jade North and Chris Coyne there to fight for a position as well," he said.

"For me personally I'm just going out there and going to train each session as hard as I can and put my hand up for selection come Wednesday."

Beauchamp, who has made 18 appearances for his country, was not a member of the squad that stole a valuable point against Japan last month.

But his stocks appear to be on the rise following his off-season move from top-flight German club FC Nuremburg to Denmark based Aalborg.

"It was tough the first six months going through injuries and suspension and things like that but now I'm back to full fitness and played a lot of games in the last few weeks," he said.

"I'm definitely feeling better about my move there and as I've said before it's a lot better to be playing regularly there than to be sitting on the bench in the Bundesliga."

Meanwhile, Beauchamp stressed the importance of keeping a clean sheet against the struggling Uzbeks, who head downunder needing a win to keep their slim qualification hopes alive.

"All the boys are definitely confident to go out there and get a result but we've got to keep the goals out as well," he warned.

"The pressure's going to be on them to get a result away from home but we're definitely going out there to put a performance on for the public and show what we can do."

Harry Kewell lifted spirits as he joined the squad at Stadium Australia today but skipped the trial match action to concentrate on fitness work on the sidelines.

He was joined in the lighter tasks by Mark Bresciano and Carl Valeri, while Tim Cahill could only match long-term injured Brett Emerton's modest efforts on the edge of the pitch.

Pim Verbeek led an energetic workout, whooping and hollering like a cattle drover as he encouraged players to keep up the tempo.
