FORGOTTEN Socceroos defender Michael Beauchamp says he hopes his switch from Melbourne Heart to Sydney FC will revive his faltering national team career.
Beauchamp hasn't played for the Socceroos since he admirably stepped in to start in the centre of defence in the 2-1 World Cup win over Serbia when Craig Moore was suspended.
The Sydney-born 30-year-old has barely had a look-in since Holger Osieck took charge of the Socceroos.
Beauchamp's underwhelming 2010/2011 campaign with Melbourne Heart didn't help his national team cause either, but now he's hoping to press for a recall with the Sky Blues.
"I know there's some young guys coming through but I'd like to think I can still keep up with them," Beauchamp told the Sunday Telegraph.
"I am ambitious and I still have that desire to play for Australia."
Beauchamp added: "The reason I left (Heart) is that the opportunity is there to play regularly at Sydney and I like the set-up there, too. I have been on a bit of a roller-coaster ride.
"Now I see a new challenge ahead. I feel I'm fit enough but I know I will have to work harder on my speed to keep up with the younger players."
Beauchamp said playing in the A-League shouldn't hurt his chances of a recall despite the majority of his Socceroos caps coming while contracted with clubs abroad, including FC Nurnberg, Aalborg BK and Al Jazira.
"All the A-League boys can take heart from him (Osieck) selecting Matty McKay and Robbie Kruse," Beauchamp said.
Nevertheless, it is understood Beauchamp has a clause in his contract with the Sky Blues that if an overseas club wants to sign him, Sydney will agree to release him.
