DAVID Beckham has declared the A-League a similar standard to the MLS saying Sydney FC “battered” Galaxy when the US club toured Australia in 2007.

“We’re expecting a tough game. Every time we’ve come here we’ve had difficult games,” Beckham said today ahead of tomorrow night's clash with Melbourne Victory.
“When we played in Sydney, that was a real tough game.We kinda got battered really."
Galaxy were beaten by the Sky Blues 5-3 in Sydney four years ago and last year the Jets came up trumps 2-1 in Newcastle.
"That was a really tough game and every time we’ve played here we expect it to be the same," he said.
“The standard is similar to what it is in the US. The game’s growing and that’s what’s great to see. People around the world are talking about both leagues and that’s a sign of the growth of the game in both countries.”
Beckham claimed to be aware of Victory and their strong supporter base as the MLS champions chase their first win against A-League opposition on local soil tomorow night.
Beckham agreed with Galaxy bosses in saying that the Victory game will be the toughest of their three game Asia Pacific tour.
“We’ve had a good trip so far in Indonesia and the Philippines but we expect this to be the hardest game out of the three,” added Beckham.
“We know they [Victory] have players who can cause us many problems and we know obviously they had a disappointing loss on the weekend.
“Harry’s [Kewell] had a successful career and he’s home now so I’m sure he’s content and his family’s content but he’s a winner, he’s still playing at a high level.
“They’re a very strong team, especially playing in front of their own fans. And we know they have a very passionate fan-base,” he said.
Kewell has put his hand up to play, said Victory coach Mehmet Durakovic, who added all players had made themselves available for the game.
The under-fire Victory coach though conceded his selections will in part reflect the fact that he has to juggle the needs of an A-League campaign and the following weekend’s clash with Adelaide.
“We had a recovery session today and everyone’s put his hand up to play but I’ll make a decision on it tomorrow,” Durakovic said.
However, on Beckham’s next career move following the conclusion of his five year contract with Galaxy, the star of the show was tight-lipped.
He has been linked with a move to the French league but said a decision will be made on his future after some time off with his family over Christmas.
“I haven’t really started thinking about it yet. I might make it [the decision] before or might after. We’ll see…” said the superstar
At another packed press conference, Galaxy striker Landon Donovan raised eyebrows when described the media circus that follows Beckham as “appalling” in the initial stages of the Englishman's MLS career.
“Obviously with David here it [the media attention] goes to a different level," said Donovan.
"Initially it was a little appalling, a little interesting at times but it’s been a massive, massive benefit to our team and our league and soccer in our country.
“He’s a special player and he’s a special person to have as part of the organization and we’ll certainly be sad if he’s not around.
“It’s been a really good five years to this point.”
