David Beckham has spoken of his disappointment at not being able to face the United States at the London Olympics.
The Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder, who could be part of the Great Britain team at the Games, is saddened the US missed out on qualification.
Needing a win to advance to the semi-finals in CONCACAF qualifying, the USA conceded a late goal in a 3-3 draw against El Salvador on Monday.
Beckham, 36, said he was upset the US missed out on a spot and backed team-mate Michael Stephens to bounce back after being part of the squad.
"Obviously it's disappointing I'd have liked to play against the US if I'm involved in the GB team," Beckham said.
"It's disappointing because obviously there are a lot of young kids that are there, who the eyes are on, the teams and the players that are involved from a soccer point it's obviously disappointing.
"Mikey's fine, he's come straight back in. He's obviously disappointed, he's a young kid, he's straight back into training with us and like I said he's disappointed but he'll be fine."
Galaxy return to MLS action after a two-week break with a clash against the New England Revolution on Saturday.
Forward Robbie Keane said Galaxy were beginning to find their feet after a slow start to the season.
"I think you've seen in the last few games (playing with Landon Donovan) we've connected quite well, we've linked up very well," Keane said.
"It comes with playing with each other on a regular basis. I'm sure you'll see a lot more from us.
"I think like any game it's always tough, you treat every game the same and treat everyone with the same respect.
"It's going to be a tough game - there are no easy games in MLS. We'll be looking to build on a couple of weeks ago after getting our first win and hopefully we can continue on from there."
