David Beckham scored his first goal for Los Angeles Galaxy as the England midfielder curled home a trademark free-kick.
Beckham beat DC United goalkeeper Troy Perkins from just outside the area to hand Galaxy a 1-0 lead after 28 minutes of Wednesday's SuperLiga semi-final meeting.
He was making just his third appearance for the Galaxy after joining from Real Madrid, but was handed the captain's armband in his first start.
Beckham had made brief appearances against English Premier League side Chelsea in July before playing 10 minutes against DC United last Thursday in his first taste of MLS action after missing the games against Toronto FC and New England Revolution.
The winner of Wednesday's semi-final will face Mexican side CF Pachuca in the SuperLiga final on August 29.
