“The only reason I arrived this morning separately was because I played for my country on Wednesday night while the rest of the squad was in LA,” said Beckham at Sunday's first press conference ahead of the Sydney versus Galaxy friendly on Tuesday night.

“I don't want to be treated any differently. We travel together to games in LA - it was just this time I'd played for my country.”

And new Galaxy supremo Ruud Gullit was also keen to stress Beckham's commitment to the cause.

“Beckham is a player of quality and experience. He doesn't play for himself, he's a team man," said Gullit.

“As we saw last Wednesday night for England [against Croatia], even though he didn't play as long as we expected or would've liked, he plays with passion and for the team.”

Beckham is also staying in the same type of rooms at Star City Casino as his fellow Galaxy teammates – shunning the flashier high roller suites for the $300 per night deluxe ones.

“The only problem with David is that he's been hurt [injured],” added Galaxy and Team US striker Landon Donovan.
