The Danish champions have contested the decision under the mistaken identity rule, which they had to do in the immediate aftermath of Wednesday night's goalless draw.

Beauchamp was wrongly dismissed by Italian referee Matteo Simone Trefoloni after team-mate Michael Jakobsen had brought down Hoops striker Georgios Samaras, who was racing through on goal.

Rioch told Sky Sports News: "That protest would have gone off to UEFA straight away."

The AaB boss revealed poor officiating over the decision was not confined to Trefoloni, with the assistant closest to the bench also unaware Jakobsen had been the culprit.

Rioch said: "There was a lot of confusion. The linesman my side right beside the trainers' box, he didn't know really who was due to go off.

"I said to him, 'You're actually going to send the wrong man off'. He asked me, 'Which number should I send off?' And I said, 'Well, I'm not telling you that! But you are going to make a mistake'."

Rioch added: "It was the wrong decision, obviously. Everybody's aware of that.

"It could have been crucial. That could have lost us the game but, at the same time, it may have prevented us from winning the game as well.

"The official behind us on the trainers' bench realised straight away that the decision had been wrong."
