Aziz Behich says the Socceroos deserved to qualify for Russia after a long, hard-fought campaign and will head to the World Cup confident about their chances.
Australia went through an arduous qualifying phase, eventually booking their spot after knocking off Syria and Honduras in consecutive two-legged playoffs.
The Socceroos now face France, Peru and Denmark in Russia in June, but Behich is unfazed.
The defender is still riding high from the emotion of that final qualifier in Sydney back in November.
"It's always going to be a part of me," he said.
"It's great to help the nation qualifiy for another World Cup. To be part of this group is amazing. We've got a strong group here, a really good bond with all the players and everyone put in throughout the campaign. We got what we deserved.
"We're confident [about the World Cup]. You're at the World Cup so you have to give it a really good shot. It's going to be a good test for us.
"Even these two upcoming games against Norway and Colombia, they're going to be a good test for us, and I think we're going to be in good shape leading into the World Cup."
Behich will be vying with James Meredith for a spot on the left of defence in the green and gold's starting XI against the Norweigans and Colombians.
The defender, who was first capped in 2012, is enjoying a brilliant season for his club Buraspor in Turkey.
"It's great to be selected," he said.
"This is why we play - to represent our country at the highest level. Those two last games were great, it's always going to be a part of me forever. I've got to keep my head down, keep working hard and make sure my hand's always up if called upon.
"I'm having probably one of the best seasons I've had in my career... I'm at a good club. We should be doing a bit better now as a team, but it happens in football, we get these downsides.
"I'm just trying to keep my performance to a high level and put my hand up to be selected for the national team."
