THE Belgian Football Association have approached Dick Advocaat to take over as Belgium coach early following the resignation of interim boss Frank Vercauteren.
Vercauteren stepped down last night in the wake of Belgium's humbling 2-1 defeat to Armenia which ended their hopes of reaching next year's World Cup finals.
Advocaat agreed back in July to take over as Belgium boss at the end of this year when his contract with Russian side Zenit St Petersburg expires.
A statement on the Belgian FA's official website read: "Contact was made with Dick Advocaat with a view to taking up his post early. Mr Advocaat is considering the request."
