Football fans emerged from their slumbers this morning to stories that Clive Palmer was set to pull the plug on Gold Coast United and that A-League head Archie Fraser had tendered his resignation.

As for the football, Fairfax newspapers claimed that Robbie Fowler is Sydney FC-bound next season as the club's new marquee star.
