A late Cristiano Ronaldo goal gave the home side a share of the spoils in Faro to cancel out Kevin Strootman's first-half strike.

Despite the fact that Portugal left it late - Real Madrid star Ronaldo struck three minutes from time - Bento felt his side should have been victorious based on the number of chances created.

In an interview with RTP, Bento said: "I am very pleased with the display team and the continuity of the work done during the previous season.

"From the way we played in the second half, the result is unfair because we created many so many chances.

"In the first half, we came under pressure, but we tried to react."

Ronaldo's equaliser rounded off what turned out to be a great night for the home side, after news filtered through that Northern Ireland had beaten FIFA World Cup qualification rivals Russia 1-0.

That result leaves Portugal two points clear at the top of Group F, with Russia having played a game more.

Bento, though, has insisted his players will focus on themselves rather than results elsewhere.

He added: "I insist, we will follow our own way."
