Dimitar Berbatov's entire reason for being at Manchester United is to win the Champions League - and the Bulgarian is confident they will.
With the possible exception of Brazilian full-back Fabio Da Silva, Berbatov will be the one member of the United starting line-up to face Inter Milan at the San Siro tomorrow night who was not with the Red Devils to celebrate last season's amazing triumph in Moscow.
The desire to enjoy the same experience in Rome this May gives the 27-year-old an additional reason to overcome Inter, who themselves have a 50-year drought to try and bring to an end under charismatic manager Jose Mourinho.
Having stated his desire to leave Tottenham for Old Trafford so publicly last summer, then ignored Manchester City's advances on deadline day when the Blues seemed willing to spend as much cash as Berbatov wanted to steal him from under their arch-rivals noses, the Bulgarian was pretty clear about his ambitions for the future.
And, as he assessed the biggest game he has been involved in since completing the £30.75million switch from Spurs, Berbatov reinforced his hopes and dreams.
"I came here to win the Champions League," he said.
"Manchester United are capable of doing that again. We have the team and the players."
Berbatov stressed he is not underestimating Inter, who have powered clear at the top of Serie A in very similar fashion to the way United have surged away from the rest at home.
It is just in the time he has been with the Red Devils, he has seen how much quality his team-mates have. And he sees no reason to be in fear of anyone.
"We are facing a very good team tomorrow," he admitted.
"But we have good players as well. It will be a great game to watch and hopefully we can take a good result back to Old Trafford for the second leg."
Berbatov accepts the wisdom of his decision to join United can only be assessed once his four-year contract reaches its conclusion.
But so far, the former Bayer Leverkusen forward has no reason to complain.
"I joined United to develop," he said.
"I feel I am doing that more and more. But only time will tell whether I was right or not."
