Berisha became the A-League's leading goalscorer when he put his 91st on Monday night, surpassing retired Victory legend Archie Thompson.

The record-breaking moment came from the spot on the half hour mark after a contentious handball was given against Jets' John Koutrombis.

Simply the Bes as Victory extend unbeaten run

Muscat joked he was oblivious to the record, saying it was not spoken about internally. But he was confident the Albanian marksman would already be thinking of the next goal.

“There’s no doubt Bes would have been thinking about (it) because everyone wants to speak about it, but the honest response is it’s never been spoken about between us,” the Victory boss said.

“I’m pleased for him because he’s proud to have broken that record at the same club that the person who held the record played.

“From that perspective, I’ve got nothing but praise for Archie, but for Bes to surpass him it was only a matter of time and make no mistake he’ll wake up tomorrow wondering when the next goal is going to come.”

Muscat was also impressed with James Troisi’s overall season, after finally scoring his first goal of the campaign.

While he felt the goal was fortunate, Muscat said looking at the bigger picture the Socceroo was consistently hurting opponents.

“He’s (Troisi) made a huge contribution and I honestly think we can utilise him more,” he said.

“If teams want to press us with large numbers, we can get the ball into him a lot quicker because he caused havoc with his passes and through balls.

“There’s so much more from James Troisi to come this season, so much more.”
