The Herald Sun reports Postecoglou would have walked away last month had the Socceroos automatically qualified for Russia 2018 and will still leave even if Australia qualifies for the World Cup next month.

It is official that Australia will play Honduras in reverse fixtures in the final game to decide whether the Socceroos will fly to Russia.

Postecoglou gave no hints of an imminent exit in the press conference following Australia’s 2-1 win over Syria on Tuesday night.

Three Socceroos – Mark Milligan, James Troisi and Tim Cahill are set to return to play in the Melbourne derby this weekend.

Berisha, who played under Postecoglou in his Brisbane Roar days said what the Roos boss did for Australian football was immeasurable.

“I believe not just for my career but for Australia too, he’s been an amazing coach, been amazing for Australia, I felt like he changed the football in Australia too and the Socceroos,” Berisha said on Wednesday.

“What he achieved, it’s going to be very difficult for anyone to achieve. If he leaves or not, I’m not sure, I don’t know but one thing I can say is he’s been great for Socceroos.”

Cahill was Australia’s saviour once again against the Syrians, scoring a brace and the winner in extra-time in a nervy 120 minutes of football.Berisha was in awe of the 37-year-old but also said there would be no friendly pleasantries on Saturday.

“I’m a striker and I know that we strikers can do that… he proved last night that sometimes it doesn’t matter how old you are, it’s experience that’s key,” he said.

“There are great headers, one of the best I’ve seen so we have to make sure we don’t allow crosses.

”Victory are coming off a 1-0 loss to Sydney FC in their season opener and Berisha is hopeful of a full house at Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

“I do remember too, we hammered them many times… we know last time at Etihad we lost (4-1), one thing for sure is we are fit, strong and confident,” Berisha said.

“It’s just really important, you want to get the points. We want to make sure we take the points, we want to bounce back strong and games like this we have to be ready.”
