Besart Berisha says Melbourne Victory are “getting stronger and stronger” after a slow start to season 2017/18.
Victory take on table-topping Sydney FC in a double header on Friday night as the Big V sit fourth on 26 points.
It has been two years since Victory beat their archrival and it has been a successful season so far for the Sky Blues after winning the championship last year.
Victory have had some positive results in recent weeks after having to wait until Round 7 to get their first win.
And now with the Asian Champions League around the corner, Berisha said they were now in a good mental state.
“We started really slow this season, but we’re coming really strong now to the end of the season and sometimes it’s better late than never,” Berisha said on Wednesday.
“We’re just really enjoying the football at the moment.
“We’re getting stronger and stronger, whatever comes now, Champions League or A-League, we’re really prepared mentally and that’s really important.
“I think we really enjoy that and we’ll just keep the momentum, work hard and keep moving forward.
“It’s been a very tough season, very challenging. It hasn’t been just for me, it’s been for everyone at the club. We’re fighting, working hard and we’ll keep trying to knock the door at the top.
“You appreciate it more if you come back stronger because we showed great mentality and spirit that we don’t give up, that’s the most important thing.”

Berisha became the A-League's all-time leading goal scorer last season, and has scored seven goals from 15 games in the current campaign.
The Kosovan also managed an assist and a goal in last week’s 3-0 win over Western Sydney Wanderers.
And with the criticism Berisha and Victory have received this season, the striker was happy he's had the support of his coach.
“Sometimes I don’t get the credit for many things,” he said.
“It’s not important, because I believe Kevin (Muscat), the boys and the club always give me credit and that’s the most important thing for me.
“I’d love to get more assists like that because it’s really important and I want more of this in my game.
“Sometimes it’s not possible because I play in different zones. I try my best to help the team as much as I can and I was very happy as a striker to get an assist.”
