The former Melbourne Victory and Brisbane Roar goal machine is now a free agent.

He exited Sanfrecce Hiroshima overnight a year and a month after signing for the club.

Berisha, 34, never cemented a place at the club but was on a lucrative contract and was expected to see out the year.

However, he was a peripheral figure for the club, making just six appearances off the bench last season.

This season, he was not sighted at all.

The striker’s representatives in Australia spoke briefly to FTBL today, and they appear to have been taken by surprise by the move.

At this point, the forward’s future is unclear.

There’s little doubt that there’d be one or two club A-League clubs eyeing the situation, especially as the striker is now an Australian citizen.

However Berisha could move back to Germany where he played before moving to Australia, lured by Ange Postecoglou’s vision for Brisbane Roar in 2011.

But a move back to Brisbane could be possible under Robbie Fowler.

Likewise new boys Western United, the Jets, and Western Sydney Wanderers may be interested given their current squad rosters.
