The deal will also give FFA access to specific bets on Australian games to guard against betting coup syndicates potentially fixing local matches.

“We expect to see significant growth in the popularity of Australian football markets over the next few years," said Betfair’s Andrew Twaits.

"We’re delighted that the FFA will now benefit directly from that growth.”

The move comes after years of petitioning the large bookmaker firms for a slice of the gambling action in Australia, said the FFA.

Now they hope other firms will join the deal.

“Over the past couple of years we have worked hard with other major sports to receive a share of revenue from betting on our events and access to information relevant to managing the integrity of our competitions," said FFA Chief Executive Officer, Ben Buckley.

"I am delighted that Betfair shares the same conclusions as the FFA and our agreement is testament to that.

"We look forward to other betting agencies following Betfair’s lead.”
