PIM Verbeek expects his young guns to be severely tested on Sunday by an extremely dangerous Chinese side no longer weighed down by expectation.

The Socceroos coach has promised to entertain the home fans who turn out at ANZ Stadium as he looks to finish this stage of World Cup qualifying on a positive note.
He believes it is an exciting chance for the fans (and coaching staff) to see younger players tested and while understanding some grumbles about missing big names, says fans have to see the bigger picture.
Verbeek has confidence in all the players at his disposal but isn’t expecting China to roll over and end a miserable campaign on another sour note.
Speaking after training at Parramatta Stadium today Verbeek said: “I think they all can do a job (the youngsters). They all can play good football. They lack international experience but the only way to get international experience is to play international games. Now we give them the chance.
“It is a great experience for the younger boys to show themselves and to prepare themselves for their Olympics.
“If I was not sure that they could do a job and win the game I would bring in other players because I’m responsible for the result and for entertaining the fans. I am fully confident about the players here today, that they can do a job and that we can win the game.
“In football it’s always about the last game but we should not forget that the biggest target was to qualify.”
Players such as David Williams, Neil Kilkenny, Roddy Vargas and Ruben Zadkovich are all hoping for some action on Sunday against the Chinese – opponents Verbeek is expecting to ask plenty of questions now that World Cup pressure is a thing of the past.
The coach said: “I am surprised about that (bringing over a strong side) but I like it. It’s a great test for us. They will come here and give everything they have to finish off well. I think they will fight from the first to the last second. I promise you there was unbelievable pressure on their shoulders.
My feeling is that pressure is gone so now they can play free. They are more dangerous than when they are under pressure. That’s two billion people on your back, I have only 20 million.”
As for those complaining that too many big stars will be absent for the Socceroos, Verbeek said: “I can understand that but in the end it’s my responsibility and also the responsibility of the players to tell me if they prefer to have at least two or three weeks off.
“All the players who are not here are the players who had tough season in Europe. Normally they have five weeks holiday. They spent three of the five weeks in training camp under difficult circumstances away from their families. I think they deserve a break and we need them for the next months and years.”
Verbeek has confirmed that Michael Petkovic will get the nod in goal. He said: “He was our number two goalkeeper during the camp and he will start on Sunday. It doesn’t say anything about Ante Covic because Ante is a great goalkeeper.
“We also have Jess Vanstrattan over here because it’s a great opportunity for me to see him instead of travelling to Italy to have an impression. We use these days to get a better impression about these players.”
