EXCLUSIVE: Carl Valeri admits he has some tough decisions to make over the coming months as he strives to book his spot on the plane to South Africa next year.
The Grosseto midfielder is preparing to discuss his club future as the Serie B side seek to extend his contract.
He wants to make sure that he gets the decision right and that nothing distracts him from his World Cup dream with the Socceroos.
Speaking to au.fourfourtwo.com today at the Socceroos' Parramatta hotel, Valeri said he was thrilled to be back in the picture.
"I haven't been involved in the last three camps due to injuries and stuff," he said. "It's great to be back in the system, catch up with the boys and prepare for these matches against Holland and Oman.
"Holland will be a wonderful game for the spectators and serve as good preparation for the Oman match - which is the most important of the two."
Valeri believes nobody can feel safe about their World Cup spot at this stage and he is taking nothing for granted.
"People say to me 'are you looking forward to South Africa?' I think it's important to be humble and I just reply that I don't know if I'm going," he said.
"The staff here know me as a player and as a person but that doesn't mean anything. Each time you come into camp you have to prove yourself. Each training session is important, each game is important. You have to give it everything to push for inclusion in the next camp or squad."
Valeri is happy enough with life at his club but feels a big decision is looming. "I have a year left on my contract so I have to respect that but they're starting to talk about a renewal of the contract.
"There are things I have to weigh up and decide. The next few years are the most important of my career.
"My dream has been to play in the World Cup since I was a kid and to represent Australia at the highest level. I don't want to (do anything to) hinder my chances," he added.
