EXCLUSIVE: Sasa Ognenovski is the complete package Adelaide United needed to complement their collection of individual components, says Paul Agostino.
As the Reds prepare to face Vietnamese side Binh Duong in the Asian Champions League on Wednesday night, marquee striker Agostino is facing a race against time to feature as he recovers from his long-standing quad injury.
But Ognenovski will definitely make his competitive United debut after the former Queensland Roar defender missed the first two group games following the death of his father.
Now though he's ready for duty.
Agostino is looking forward to seeing Ognenovski unleashed on the Asian stage and believes Aurelio Vidmar has made a smart acquisition.
He told au.fourfourtwo.com: “I think it’s a great signing for this football club and I think he is the complete package as a footballer.
“We’ve some very talented players at this club and all bring different qualities to the side. In Sasa, you have someone who only adds to that.
“He is exactly the sort of player we need. He had a great season alongside Craig Moore at Queensland last year. I think it is a very big compliment to our football club that he sees something here that he wants to be part of.
“He is the sort of player who wears his heart on his sleeve and never gives up the fight. Looking at it from a striker’s point of view, he is a very big presence at the back but he’s also very quick for his size. That makes him a formidable opponent.”
While United travel to face the side currently propping up the group, Hindmarsh coach Aurelio Vidmar is warning against anyone taking victory for granted.
He said: “I don’t think we’re over confident but there is a danger of thinking that we’re going to go there and the game is going to be done and dusted before we even get onto the park.
"Being inconsistent in our approach, that is the danger so it will be a real mind game for us.”
The Reds will be without Bruce Djite (injury) and Robbie Cornthwaite (suspension) but midfielder Jonas Salley is available again after serving his ban.
