England require only a point to secure their passage to Austria and Switzerland next year but Croatia have already qualified and a draw would mean they would finish top of Group E.

However, the former West Ham defender insists he cannot afford to set up his team to stifle England.

"Nobody is favourite when they play away against England so we would be happy for a point. A point at Wembley is always a good result but you can't play for a draw," said Bilic.

"It is a big match. It is every player's dream to play at Wembley and we will do everything we can to represent our country in the best possible way.

"We are coming to Wembley to play a serious game. We are going to play our normal game and we are going to try to keep the English players far from our goal but that is easy to say."

Bilic also reiterated his backing for under-fire England manager Steve McClaren, whose job was under serious threat before Israel's shock victory over Russia last night and whose long-term position remains in question.

"He has got what he wanted and he deserves it but Steve McClaren is extremely unlucky in every game he plays because he is missing three or four important players (with injury)," Bilic told BBC Radio 5 Live's Sportsweek programme.
