Croatia are tantalisingly close to sealing a place at Euro 2008 after a 1-0 win over Israel, but coach Slaven Bilic is not celebrating yet.
The Group E standings after Saturday's action will make pleasant viewing for Croatia and their supporters - they have 26 points, with second-placed England, who beat Estonia, on 23.
Third-palced Russia, who have a game in hand on both Croatia and England, have 18 points.
"Nothing is over yet," warned Bilic. "I would not like to speak about others at the moment, nor about mathematics.
"I'm interested just in our team, in achieving our own goals."
Croatia do not have a game on Wednesday when Russia host England and if the Russians fail to win that game Croatia will have secured their spot at next year's tournament in Austria and Switzerland.
Bilic admitted: "As all others here among our team and among our supporters, of course I'll be interested in the result of the Russia-England game.
"And, like all of them, I hope fortune will be on our side on Wednesday so that we can celebrate qualification for Euro 2008.
"But, as I've said, nothing is over yet. We are doing good things, we are charging, we are marching but, at the moment, we are waiting."
After bossing the first half against the Israelis, Eduardo Da Silva struck seven minutes into the second and that proved enough for victory.
Reliving the moment when his left-foot volley from Vedran Corluka's cross produced the only goal, Da Silva said: "I was just in the right place.
"I saw Corluka was ready to cross, and I moved into the heart of the penalty area and scored.
"But I'm not important at the moment. This was a team victory, and that's what we are here for."
Eduardo, who is a naturalised Croatian born in Brazil, added: "It was one of toughest for us in these qualification games. We knew how important this victory was for us, so maybe that was a reason for the lack of chances.
"But, after the first half in which we had just one or two shots despite our domination, we scored at the start of second, which was crucial."
