MELBOURNE and Adelaide have each been fined $10,000 for their parts in the aftermath of two controversial incidents in last month's A-League Grand Final.
In a curiously delayed verdict from FFA, both teams were fined for engaging in melees, showing dissent to match officials and seeking to exert pressure on match officials to make decisions.
Melbourne was fined $5000 for both its reaction to an incident which saw Adelaide striker Cristiano sent off and its part in the aftermath of a fracas which saw Victory frontman Danny Allsopp red carded as well.
Adelaide was fined $7500 for each of the two incidents of which $2500 was suspended meaning it must pay the same overall price as Melbourne for its players' behaviour.
Adelaide pair Cristiano and Eugene Galekovic were also fined $500 for public comment on matters that were still before the Match Review Panel, while the club was slugged another $500 for its players receiving five yellow cards during the match.
The bizarre ruling - where the clubs and players have been fined by the FFA for protesting decisions which were later overturned by the FFA - puts an end to the aftermath of the most controversial Grand Final in the short history of the A-League.
Cristiano's 10th minute send-off was a major turning point of the game, while Allsopp's red card on 64 minutes, was for a behind-the-play incident.
However days later, the MRP rescinded the cards after examining the video of the two incidents in an extraordinary about-face which left Australia's best referee Matthew Breeze red-faced.
