With the club sat 17th position in Championship, just seven points outside of the relegation zone and another eight points adrift of the play-off places, the club's owners have decided to act.

The 43-year-old Norwegian had just 10 games in charge, leading the team to only one victory, a 4-1 win over Peterborough away from home in November, losing six and drawing the remaining three, failing to win a game at Blackburn's Ewood Park home during his brief tenure.

A statement on the club's official website reads: "Blackburn Rovers FC has announced the departure of manager Henning Berg, assistant manager Eric Black, first team coach Iain Brunskill and goalkeeping coach Bobby Mimms with immediate effect.
 
"This decision has been taken following a very disappointing sequence of results.
 
"The club thanks the four men for their efforts and wishes them every success for the future."

Having lost five of the club's last six games, Berg, who played for Blackburn between 1993 and 1997, saw his side lose his final game in charge 1-0 away to Middlesbrough on Wednesday.

Berg replaced Steve Kean after the previous manager walked away from the club in September, claiming his position had become untenable.

Blackburn were relegated from the Premier League last season following a season and a half of struggle under Kean, who took over from the sacked Sam Allardyce in December 2010.
