Laurent Blanc insists Edinson Cavani still needs to gain full fitness after featuring in Paris Saint-Germain's 1-1 draw with Montpellier.
Cavani came on in the 71st minute of Friday's clash at the Stade de la Mosson, but he was unable to find the winner after Maxwell had cancelled out Remy Cabella's 10th-minute opener.
The Uruguayan joined PSG for a fee in the region of €64million after three goal-laden seasons with Serie A side Napoli.
However, despite his considerable reputation, Blanc believes it will be a while before Cavani hits top form, having featured sparingly for the Ligue 1 champions in pre-season.
"He is not 100 percent, far from it," Blanc told beIN Sport.
"But he is still an important player, and in particular a goalscorer.
"This is a player who has had about 10 days of preparation. He needs to play.
"There will be no friendly matches for him to reach perfect condition so therefore it must be done in an official match."
Cavani's debut for PSG saw him link up with Zlatan Ibrahimovic for the first time, and Blanc is insistent that the partnership can flourish in the long term.
"We have seen that Edinson, when he came on, provided depth and created opportunities," he added.
"We will have to work and especially begin to work together. It is one of the first times they (Cavani and Ibrahimovic) have played minutes together.
"A balance must be found to enable them to be effective."
Cabella - who proved to be the main thorn in PSG's side during the contest - was satisfied with the point after Montpellier went down to 10 men with Abdelhamid El Kaoutari sent off late in the second half.
"They pushed in the second half. We tried to hold," Cabella said.
"We did not let off, even with 10 men.
"The start was not very good. It was a tough match. We would have liked to win, but it is a point that is satisfactory."
