Laurent Blanc wishes that he had a player of similar ability to Xavi or Xabi Alonso in his France squad for the European Championship.
The 46-year-old took on the process of rebuilding Les Bleus after an appalling World Cup campaign in 2010 and believes his side are lacking a world-class midfield talent, something which Spain seem to have in abundance.
"I wish I had available to me a brain in the middle of the field, like Xavi or Xabi Alonso or a guy who analyses the play with a quarter turn and decides if we do this or that," Blanc told France Football.
"But for this, one must have the bottle, to impose himself on his club like in the national team and to reach an exceptional level.
"We, as a team are still in a period of construction, and logically our players are still novices in that area.
"(Yohan) Cabaye, (Yann) M'Vila and (Marvin) Martin do not carry much weight at the international level."
France will face England in their opening Euro 2012 game at the Donbass Arena in Donetsk on Monday.
