Remy, 25, was selected in Blanc's 26-man-squad despite suffering the injury in a Ligue 1 match against Auxerre on May 13.

But the French camp released a statement on Friday announcing that he would not take part in the tournament, with Blanc admitting his absence would hurt his side.

"Loic's (Remy) withdrawal is a blow," Blanc said.

"But since the 37th Ligue 1 matchday, it had unfortunately become a reality. We tried or rather hoped for the tiny chance there was to take him in our squad for the Euros.

"Unfortunately on Friday morning he underwent a few medical tests and the results showed there was no chance he could go to the tournament. It's sad for us and it's sad for him, so, he left us on Friday night."

France take on Iceland in a friendly in Valenciennes on Sunday and Blanc said his team, which he describes as 'offensive', will play with an aggressive mindset.

"It's an offensive team," he said.

"It's a technical team, composed of technical players. Our opponent has a very definite kind of play. I think that if we play in the air, we will get beaten because they are much more comfortable in the air than we are.

"So, we decided for a team that has the technical capacity to hold the ball and keep possession. I hope we will have the ball more than our opponent and that we will put Iceland under pressure. We know that they will play very physically."
