GOLD Coast United boss Miron Bleiberg believes Michael Thwaite is a great example to other international hopefuls that fighting through setbacks and working hard can reap rewards.
Bleiberg is delighted to see Thwaite included in the Socceroos squad for the Paraguay clash next month.
"It is a message to all players, especially young ones, that you have to put your disappointments behind you and continue to work hard. Eventually the rewards will come and that is the case with Michael - we are all very happy for him," said Bleiberg.
"Different coaches have different tastes and now Michael is back in the [national team] squad. He can play in a variety of positions and he plays them all well. Michael will always do a good job."
Thwaite himself was both delighted and surprised by his inclusion.
"It was a pleasant surprise and it's an awesome feeling to be involved in the national team again," Thwaite said.
"The new Socceroos Coach seems to have a fresh approach to Hyundai A-League players and it's good to see so many Australian-based players in a strong squad.
"I've tried to let my football speak for itself and I've really enjoyed my football over the last two years; this is a great honour for me.
"My intention is to enjoy the week I have with the national team and do the best I can. There are some high quality players there and it will be great to be a part of it and train with them.
"Opportunities to be involved with the national team haven't come along that often for me so I'm going to grab it with both hands."
