Stuttgart director of sport Fredi Bobic felt Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben's "dramatic" reaction to a foul played a crucial role in his side's defeat yesterday.
Bayern won 2-1 at the Mercedes-Benz-Arena with two goals from former Stuttgart striker Mario Gomez after Christian Gentner had put the hosts ahead.
Stuttgart's chances were compromised, however, by the dismissal of Cristian Molinaro shortly before the half-hour mark.
The Italian full-back's second yellow card from referee Manuel Grafe came for a tackle on Robben. Molinaro claimed the ball but came through the back of the Holland international to get it.
Bobic was adamant the officials made a mistake, although television replays suggested the booking was justified.
"World-class players like Robben or even (Franck) Ribery like to wait for such situations," Bobic said. "Referees are not corrupt, but they do have respect for such players and I can understand that, but the referee fell for it here.
"If Robben had not been so dramatic, then there would not have been a yellow card."
Bobic was unhappy with the refereeing overall.
"I was not pleased with the way he has refereed this game," he added on Sky television. "Everybody has a bad day, but today he was so quick to show a yellow card and I didn't like that.
"Once you start showing yellow cards for every foul then it is difficult and you have no room for manoeuvre."
Gentner also felt the red card was pivotal in the outcome.
"Who knows how it would have ended had we played 11 against 11," he said. "Of course Bayern had more control of the game following the red card. There is no doubt that Bayern were the better team - because they had a man extra."
The win saw Bayern move three points clear at the Bundesliga summit with coach Jupp Heynckes reserving special praise for Gomez.
He told the club's official website: "There are still 18 games to play. The crucial thing was to come here today and win, which you can never take for granted in Stuttgart. Especially towards the end, you could see some of my players beginning to look drained.
"Gomez didn't just score the two goals, he also worked really hard when we weren't in possession. Games against Stuttgart are very special for him. Fortunately, he's scored both goals today, and we really needed them."
