BOLTON are reportedly set to re-ignite their interest in Middlesbrough's Australia international Rhys Williams as they prepare a formal £2.25 million offer for his services.
The Bolton News reported on Tuesday that Wanderers boss Owen Coyle is ready to begin his transfer plans with goalkeeper Ali Al Habsi's move to Wigan set to be confirmed this week.
Al Habsi's move to the Latics would generate funds for Coyle to spend and he stated his admiration for Socceroo Williams in May but never made a formal bid.
Coyle and Williams worked together when the 22-year-old Australian utility spent time on loan at Burnley in 2009.
It is believed Coyle will have £6 million in transfer funds to spend, with £3.5 million of them to be spent on Benfica winger Rodrigo who was with Bolton on loan last season.
Middlesbrough boss Tony Mowbray previously stated he wouldn't sell Williams but the Teesside club still do need to trim their hefty wage bill.
Williams had told au.fourfourtwo.com in May he was interested in playing in the Premier League.
“I've never played in the Premiership and it's always been my dream,” Williams said.
“If the right move comes along and it's right for the club, myself and my career then it'd be the way forward.
“My future lies in the hands of Middlesbrough Football Club. Whether they want to keep me or sell me, it's their choice and time will tell.”
The Daily Mail has also reported today that Liverpool could be interested in Williams' services.
