Middlesbrough striker Ayegbeni Yakubu was today given permission to talk to Everton after the two clubs agreed an undisclosed fee.
The Teessiders finally accepted the Toffees' offer, understood to amount to £11.25million, for the 24-year-old Nigeria international after a protracted pursuit paid dividends.
A Boro spokesman said: "We can confirm we have agreed a fee for the sale of Yakubu and he has been given permission to talk to Everton.
"We will only confirm the fee once any deal is complete."
