Young pulled off a string of first class saves to keep the Jets attack at bay - and palmed away a stinging free kick by Dimi Petratos in the 76th minute.

But there was nothing Bribane's custodian could do to stop substitute Joey Champness three minutes later when he broke the deadlock with the only goal of the game.

Steven Ugarkovic, with some delightful lead up work, slid the ball into the path of Champness whose low drive brought up his fourth goal of the season.

Post match former Manchester United goalkeeper and A-League commentator, Mark Bosnich heaped praise on Young.

"Is there a better shot-stopper in the A-League at the moment? I doubt it," Bosnich told Fox Sports. "He's been absolutely outstanding."

Despite a Man of the Match performance, the 32-year-old was disappointed not to close the gap on the top six.

"You want to win games and play well too, so it's bittersweet but I still believe in our team and everyone associated...we've got really good characters here."

Roar will feel aggrieved not to get a penalty after what looked like a blatant foul on Avraam Papadopoulos just inside the box in final moments of the game.

Young has enjoyed an extended run between the sticks, and racked up the second highest number of saves in the league.

But in what has been a diabolical season by Roar standards, wasn't getting carried away by three clean sheets.

"I'm just really grateful to be playing to be honest."

Young wasn't keen to be dragged into a debate about some of the calls that went against the home side.

"That's football unfortunately, sometimes it happens," he said.

"Referees obviously want to do the right things and there's a lot of pressure moments in the game and, you know, we've got to keep focusing on ourselves."

The loss leaves Brisbane in 7th place on the ladder and four points adrift of finals football.
