The Australian custodian impressed the W-League side with her performers during last year’s World Cup in China and she could yet join three of her green and gold colleagues in the USA.

Midfielder Collette McCallum and strikers Sarah Walsh and Caitlin Munoz have already agreed to join Californian-based side Pali Blues Soccer Club when the new US Women’s Professional Soccer League kicks off in 2009.

Now it seems Renegades coach Darren Gallagher is keen to add Barbieri to his squad according to media sources in the US.

The Renegades will begin their W-League season on May 10 at Bowditch Field against Northeast Division powerhouse Jersey Sky Blue.

Other high profile signings include Brazilian Gabriela Demoner Pierce and Sweden’s Therese Luckner.

Director of coaching Peter Bradley told the MetroWest Daily News that foreign players liked what they were hearing about the Renegades.

He said: “Whether we've been successful or not on the field, players who come here know we're professional in terms of training environment.

“I think that word of mouth, through the years, is a big thing. The WPS has created a lot of buzz, and they think that Boston is a good place to be.”

Barbieri has just helped the Matildas to victory over New Zealand and whether or not she joins the Renegades, a trip to the US is guaranteed.

The Matildas will play their first away matches since last year's FIFA Women's World Cup quarter final appearance when they face reigning Olympic champions the United States in two matches this month.

The Australian team will play their hosts on April 27 in North Carolina, and May 3 in Birmingham, Alabama.

The Matildas are preparing for May’s AFC Women's Asian Cup, a competition they narrowly missed out on two years ago in Adelaide.
