The 21-year-old ex-Liverpool junior, who was once rated by former Reds boss Rafa Benitez as the best goalkeeper at his age level, has put pen to paper on a new one-year deal with the Latics.

Bouzanis had joined the third tier club on non-contract terms in November last year, before impressing in eight appearances following an injury to number one and compatriot Alex Cisak.

Wesolowski, 24, has signed a new two-year deal with Oldham despite much interest from elsewhere.

Oldham boss Paul Dickov told the club's website about Bouzanis: "Dean had to wait patiently for his chance but when it came, he seized it. When Dean came in, it was on non-contract terms and he was not paid initially.

"He came in and did well as we knew he would, as he is a talented boy and a naturally gifted goalkeeper."

On Wesolowski, Dickov added: "I am delighted because James is an integral part of our plans for next season. We saw last season when James and Dean Furman were fit and played alongside each other that there was probably no better central-defensive pairing in League One.

"I would go as far as saying James can be as big as any other signing we make this summer."

He added: "James received a number of other offers which did not surprise me. He could have been better off financially elsewhere but he wants to stay with us.

"The great thing about James is that he is fully committed whether in games or training and also to the club as he has shown by agreeing to sign for two years."
